The Weekend: Benefit Runs, Police Expo and More

Enjoy fun and exciting events locally this weekend.

If only the weekends lasted longer!  Then maybe we could fit in all the fun events that are happening in our area. Below is a list of highlights over the next few days.  Be sure to check the Patch calendar for a complete listing of upcoming events.

MHS Dance Concert

With Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern and Musical Theater Dance, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Millburn High School 7th Annual Dance Club show this weekend in the MHS auditorium. $7, Friday and Saturday nights 7 p.m. Millburn

In memory of memory of Katherine Santiago, a student, the 5th Annual Walk ‘n Roll to Cure SMA will raise funds for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The Walk is one mile (six laps around the field at Wyoming School) but feel free to walk more or less or just join in for the day in support. There will refreshments for all the walkers and their supporters.  Free; Saturday at noon; Millburn

The will be bustling with law enforcement this Saturday when local, county, state, and federal agencies provide live demonstrations and displays throughout the mall.  Many safety programs will be presented, including the Livingston Kiwanis sponsored Kid Care Child ID Program, where parents can have their child fingerprinted and photographed for identification purposes.  Free; Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Livingston

In celebration of their new komodo dragon, The will host a day of Chinese Dancers  performing Traditional Chinese Dragon and Lion Dances. The Dragon and Lion Dance, performed by Yee's Hung Ga International Kung Fu Association, protects against negative influences. Included in the price of Zoo admission. Adults  $10 Children $7 Seniors $7 Under 2 Free; Saturday, with performances between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; West Orange

Treat mom on Mother’s Day to a presentation featuring “perfect ladies” of the 19th century at .  Kristina Haugland, Assistant Curator of Costumes and Textiles at the Philadelphia Museum of Art will examine the social context behind the evolution of Victorian fashions such as corsets, hoop skirts and bustles as well as attempts to reform women’s dress and redefine their social position. Examples of Durand-Hedden’s Victorian clothing collection will also be on view. Free; Sunday at 2 p.m.; Maplewood

Proceeds from this event will go to support academically talented inner city scholars attending Seton Hall Preparatory School through The Griffin Bridges Program.  Enjoy a 5K Run through South Mountain Reservation, with a post-race reception at McLoone’s Boathouse in West Orange.  $25; Saturday at 9 a.m.; South Mountain Reservation
