The Weekend: Picnic, Tag Sale and Car Wash

Here's what is happening in and around Millburn/Short Hills this weekend.

Check your calendars and make sure you have the following local events included in your weekend plans!

The industrious fifth-graders at will spend Saturday washing away dirt and grime from cars to fund their fifth-grade graduation celebration.  Pre-paid tickets (or the chance to make a straight donation) are available at www.hartshornpto.com.  Another way to support the kids is to purchase a $5 raffle ticket for 2 front row seats to this year's Hartshorn Moving-Up Ceremony.  $8.00 for 1 car or $14 for 2 cars; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Short Hills

The is hosting an art exhibit by Millburn artist Victoria Plummer, on view through May 31st.  Plummer’s work includes hand pulled monoprints and glass printed photographs, in an exhibit titled “Refracted”.  Free; Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., and Sun 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Millburn

is a social club for new and established residents of Millburn and Short Hills that focuses on providing a warm welcome to local residents.  Members and prospective members are invited to spend Saturday at a picnic at the Turtle Back Rock Picnic Area in the South Mountain Reservation.  Activities include a bouncy house, giant inflatable slide, games, face painting, arts and crafts, pizza, sandwiches, salads, and the ice cream truck, so bring the family and enjoy a day with your neighbors.  $45 per family; Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; South Mountain Reservation

and the are joining forces this weekend to conduct a tea and tag sale at the church.  Proceeds will benefit the restoration of the St. Stephen's rectory, which was severely damaged by the August 2012 Millburn flood, as well as the historical society for conservation of the collection.  Enjoy a lovely cup of tea while you browse the aisles of vintage items for sale.  Free admission; Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Millburn

The Run for Rachel benefits the Rachel Coalition, a partnership of nine northern New Jersey organizations working together to serve victims of domestic violence.  Come out for a morning of race events, including a 5K USA Track and Field – New Jersey Women’s Open Championship Race; a 3K Walk; and a Kids’ Run, as well as a DJ,  children’s entertainment, and refreshments. Joseph DiVencenzo, Jr., the Essex County Executive, will sound the starting gun at the Livingston Oval. $25 ($7 for Kids’ Race); Sunday starting at 7:30 a.m.; Livingston

The 11th Annual Maplewood Mayfest is a community celebration featuring rides, games, petting zoo, pony rides, live music, food, a classic car show and more than 100 participating vendors.  Festivities will take place on Springfield Avenue from Indiana Street to Oberlin Street.  Free admission; Sunday noon to 5 p.m.; Maplewood
