Hunt Eggs, Celebrate Nature and History With Your Kids

Earth Day is only one of the many kid-friendly events this weekend

This weekend is all about getting out and enjoying nature!  The Annual Millburn Egg Hunt is at Taylor Park this morning.  The Environmental Center celebrates Earth Day, while Branch Brook Park will host Bloomfest.  For a bit of variety, the Summit YMCA is holding a Healthy Kids Day, and Morristown is having   Revolutionary Times Weekend, complete with historical re-enactments and demonstrations.  Read on for the details, and feel free to add your own suggestions in the Comments section.

Why Go?  This popular event for preschoolers through 2nd graders offers prizes in each category.  The hunt goes on rain or shine!

Where/When: Essex County Environmental Center  621 Eagle Rock Ave # B, Roseland; Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Why Go?   Re-connect with nature at this free fun-filled event with hands-on educational games and activities, canoe trips, bird walks, live nature-themed music, information booths, and an eco-market. Visit the Essex County Beekeepers Society station as they show the inner workings of a bee hive, or witness how art is created from found pieces of wood and fallen tree branches.  There are too many offerings to list!

Where/When: Branch Brook Park, Newark; Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Why Go? A packed schedule of events includes Japanese cultural demonstrations, children's activities, live music, a crafter's marketplace, food, and more.  Not to mention that the cherry trees should be in full bloom.

Where/When: Washington’s Headquarters Museum 30 Washington Pl, Morristown;  Saturday and Sunday

Why Go?  Morristown and New Jersey have a rich history, especially concerning Revolutionary times.  This weekend features numerous events at various historical sites for entertainment and education.  Many are child-centered.  Click the link for a detailed list of events.

Why Go?  This free, family event is packed with fun!  Games, arts and crafts, face painting, a family scavenger hunt, plus various health vendors will keep the entire family busy and entertained.
