NJPAC is hosting a night of Motown greats this Saturday.
In honor of this year's NJPAC fundraising gala, the concert hall will feature A Night in Motown - including En Vogue, The Four Tops, Valerie Simpson and Darlene Love.
The performers will be under the direction of American Idol music director Ray Chew. The show will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at Prudential Hall.

The evening’s all-star lineup will be rounded out by MJ Rodriguez, a Newark native and NJPAC Arts Education alumni will join the evening’s performers. Rodriguez is a rising television and theater actor whorecently completed a run as Angel in the New World Stages revival of RENT and had a guest appearance on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie.
The 17th annual gala, which is a separate event the same evening, will also honor individuals and companies that have contributed to the arts, to Newark and to the greater New Jersey community. The gala is hosted by the Women's Association of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
“We are thrilled to be hosting a magical “Night in Motown” to benefit NJPAC and its transformative arts education programs,” said Christine Gilfillan, board president of the Women’s Association of NJPAC. “The Gala is our largest fundraising vehicle of the year, where we go a long way towards achieving our mission: to promote, advocate, and fund NJPAC.”
Since its inception in 1994, the Women’s Association of NJPAC has raised over $36.6 million in support of general operations and Arts Education programs at NJPAC and serves as the Arts Center’s largest annual funding source. .
This year’s gala Co-Chairs are Sheila F. Klehm and Mary Beth O’Connor, both of New Vernon, N.J. The Spotlight Gala Dinner Chair is D. Nicholas Miceli, Market President for TDBank.
The Women’s Association of NJPAC will present awards to individual, corporate and community leaders during the evening’s ceremonies. This year’s honorees are: Alfred C. Koeppe, who will receive The Ryan Award for his “Commitment to NJPAC and Leadership in the City of Newark;” Walter and Judy Shipley, who will receive The Chambers Award for their “Service to the Community and to the Arts;” PwC and the company’s U.S. Chairman and Senior Partner Bob Moritz will receive The Vagelos Award for their “Corporate Commitment to the Arts.”
