Down The Shore: What To Do This Weekend

Fairs, circus, champion horses and more.

Summer may almost be half over, but the fun continues down the Shore. There are no shortage of diverse events and nightlife to enjoy, from fairs to plays to concerts to the circus.

The best of the boardwalk comes to Freehold this weekend as the annual continues with rides, amusements, contests and food for the whole family. Each day this weekend will feature a number of events held at the East Freehold Park Showgrounds at 1500 Kozloski Road in Freehold, sponsored by the Monmouth County Park System and the Monmouth County 4-H Association. The fair will run from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For a complete list of events,

Heading further east and still want your fill of carnival fun? Stop by the Friday and Saturday at the borough's Mallard Park. will be available from 6 to 10:30 p.m. both nights, with proceeds benefiting the Manasquan Volunteer Engine Company 2. For more information, visit www.manasquanfair.com.

More than 125 vendors will display their wares Saturday at a at , 4265 Atlantic Ave., Wall. Old, new and handmade items will be for sale, with proceeds benefiting the educational and historical programs at Allaire. The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Seaside Heights beachgoers can towel off and watch the , on the beach from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. Footvolley is a unique Brazilian sport that combines aspects of beach volleyball and soccer. The tournament will be played between Sumner and Blaine avenues.

Horse racing fans are in for a treat Sunday when are expected at the . First race starts at noon at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, with tickets ranging from $12.90 to $21.60. Call 732-571-5563 to purchase.

The Cole Bros Circus of the Stars comes to FirstEnergy Park, 2 Stadium Way, Lakewood. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. To purchase tickets, click here.

Tony and Emmy award-winning actor Judd Hirsch will take the stage at the Surflight Theatre, 201 Engleside Ave., Beach Haven, as the star of  a Tony Award-winning comedy exploring friendship and art. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets, click here.

Free concerts continue this weekend with the , held at the 101 Washington St. The Toms River Municipal Band performs Friday, The Rag Timers Saturday and the Power House Big Band entertains on Sunday. All three concerts start at 7:30 p.m.

NIGHTLIFE

Beachcomber, 100 Ocean Terrace, Seaside Heights — A popular spot among the late-night partiers, Beachcomber has nightly drink specials and great cover bands.

Friday: Boothill Express performs at 10 p.m.

Saturday: Steve Brown performs at 3 p.m.; Garden State Radio at 10 p.m.

Sunday: Frankie and The Burn at 4 p.m.

Brickhouse, 979 Cedarbridge Ave., Brick  Brickhouse Bar & Grille offers a full menu and a full bar selection. It's a great spot to hit up for happy hour or a Saturday night out.

Saturday: Live entertainment with Trane Stevens Band at 9:30 p.m. Drink specials include $2.50 Miller Lite mugs and $3 Miller Light bottles.

Sunday: Matt Noffsinger Band at 6:30 p.m.

Daddy O, 4401 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach Island — Daddy O Boutique Hotel and Restaurant is a chic escape with great drink specials and impressive dining options. Happy hour everyday with $3.50 domestic beers and house wines and $5.50 selected cocktails.

Friday: Live music by Ted Hammock and Matt Fisher from 6 to 10 p.m.; $3 glasses of Prosecco in the bar and 20 bottles of wine for $20 each.

Saturday:  DJ Elastic starts the dance party at 9 p.m.

Sunday: Dan Barone performs live 6 to 10 p.m.

Friday: Live music with Brother Pete Band from 6 to 10 p.m. and Bill Mcleod Duo from 7 to 11 p.m.

Saturday: Live music all day beginning at noon with Smokey Starr. Frankie and the Burn performs from 6 to 10 p.m. and Crystal Boogie from 7 to 11 p.m.

Sunday: Live music with Melanie & Sonny from noon to 4 p.m. then Blue Crew from 5 to 9 p.m.

— Named after a park in Dublin, this enchanting pub and Irish restaurant is one of the most authentic in the state. There are daily menu specials and weekend live entertainment.

Friday: Live music with Paul Cargiulo at 9:30 p.m.

Saturday: Live music with Green Underground at 9:30 p.m.

Sunday: The Bantry Boys at 6 p.m.

 A large Irish pub and restaurant, Connolly Station has it all — from late night dancing to Sunday football.

Friday: Paul Cilinski's Backyard B.B.Q happy hour at 5 p.m. The Pickles at 10 p.m. in the main bar and DJ Dave in the Dublin Bar.

Saturday: Toxic Twins at 4 p.m. No Standards at 10 p.m. in the main bar and DJ A.K. in the Dublin Bar.

Sunday: DJ Rob and Sunday Funday Mug Club at 9 p.m.
