Local Halloween Events Brewing in Essex

From haunted houses to haunted walking tours, fun activities are underway in Millburn-Short and around the Essex County area.

Here is a rundown a local Halloween events and activities coming up in the next few days.

PUMPKIN PATCH at Wyoming Presbyterian Church

Weekdays: 11:30 a.m.— 5:30 p.m.
Saturdays: 10 a.m.—5:30 p.m. 
Sundays: 12—5:30 p.m.

The volunteers will unload a tractor-trailer load of pumpkins onto the front lawn, transforming it almost magically into Millburn’s very own suburban pumpkin patch. Drop by rain or shine to pick out all of your Halloween pumpkins, gourds, and decorative corn.

Open daily through Halloween. The proceeds from the 2012 PumpkinPatch will go to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Wacky Walkathon to End Loneliness

Friday, Oct. 26, 5 p.m.

The Turn-A-Frown-Around Foundation, Inc. (TAFA) is
holding the first annual Wacky Walkathon to End Loneliness on the Montclair State campus on Oct. 26 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will promise a night of wackiness as walkers optionally dress in accordance with the Halloween theme. Contests, incredible theater, dance, and musical performances, food, prizes, Zumba and Drumba, an art show by Montclair students, a clown for the kids, crazy comedy, an arm wrestling championship, the Haunting and Healing Houses, the opportunity to become a Forever Friend, and more will fill the campus’s Recreation Center. For details and to register, click here or email wackywalkathon@gmail.com.

 

State Scare Haunted Attraction

All new this year, State Scare, located at State Fair Halloween Store, is the scariest indoor haunted attraction in New Jersey. Take a stroll down ‘Maim Street,’ a terrifying little thoroughfare built on the site of the old State Processing Factory, recently razed due to its evil activities. On Maim Street, you’ll find a creepy barber shop, butcher, pub, hotel and 5&10. Come and find out why shoppers are disappearing, and Maim Street isn’t quite what it seems. “Not So Scary Sunday Matinee” for kids, Sundays in October, from 4-6 p.m.

 

A Halloween Ghost Walk

Friday, Oct. 26, 5 p.m.

The Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association
presents "A Halloween Ghost Walk." Guided tours by James Gardner will take you on a half-mile walk from Arlington Avenue to the Cloverleaf Tavern, revealing unbelievable but true stories about the neighborhood. Tours start at 5, 5:30, 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m. (7:30 tour sold out!) $10 adults, $5 for children under 13. Tours must be reserved in advance with full payment. Please show up 15 minutes before tour scheduled tour time to check in. Tickets may be purchased at the birthplace and at local merchants. 

 

Verona Recreation Pumpkin Carving Contest

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 3:30 p.m.
Verona Community Center
880 Bloomfield Ave., Verona
FREE 

For children in grades 5-8. The competition is limited to 32 contestants. Pre-register at veronanj.org. Cash prizes will be given to the winner for each category. Categories include: Scariest, Funniest & Most Original Pumpkins. Safe Carving Tools will be provided.
