514 Customers Still Affected by Power Outages

According to Jersey Central Power and Light's website, 514 customers are still in the dark in Millburn. 

The company estimates it will fully restore power by Monday; 81 customers on Sunday and 433 on Monday. 

The township website stated 32 crews were over the weekend throughout Millburn.

Residents in the area without power have said in patch comments, they received messages from the town at the end of last week telling them their power would return Friday night at 10 p.m.

The township confirmed six crews working at Taylor and Hobart, four crews in the area of W. Beechcroft, three crews at Bishop’s lane and Hobart and trees have been cleared at Cambridge and Falmouth.

Currently, Haimoff said she is dealing directly with the company's vice president, Mark Jones, after a week of complaining about the lack of communication to the company and the governor's office.

Hartshorn will remain closed but six crews are working to restore power.

"Certain areas, like in Millburn township, where there's been really bad damage to our systems, its going to take our crews a little bit longer to restore service to customers," JCP&L official, Mark Nitoski, said. "This is part of the storm restoration when it becomes labor intensive because you are replacing poles and wires, while bringing back a small number of customers with each repair."

According to Jones's report on Wednesday, 665 houses in South Mountain and Wyoming area will be restored tonight. By the end of day Thursday, 706 Short Hills and over 1,000 Glenwood area customers will receive power.

Yet, JCP&L's website released a list estimating the number of customers to receive power by Nov. 10 on Wednesday, which differs from the report Jones gave to the mayor.

The website stated on Wednesday it expects to return power to 512 customers; Thursday: 30; Friday: 366; Saturday: 1,104. These numbers though still leave, 300 plus Millburn homes in the dark.

When questioned about the 300-plus customers not estimated on the list, officials had no defined time frame or specific locations of these customers throughout town

Deerfield power was restored Tuesday night after Haimoff brought the township's power company complaints to the governor's office.

Since Hurricane Sandy hit, Haimoff said the power company has been difficult to work with and provided little or incorrect information.

"Jersey Central Power and Light is a horrible company and we are doing everything we can to resolve this situation," Haimoff said. 

Nitoski explained the numbers provided have been estimates. "It was one of the largest storms to hit the area," Nitoski said. "We're working as fast and safe as we can to get everybody back."

The company said it has 9,700 workers fixing downed lines and clearing trees throughout the state with a few hundred more on the way. About 5,000 are line workers and 1,500 are forestry workers. The company has replaced over 1,600 poles so far over all. 

When the power is restored, the township will deal with the issues with JCP&L, which has provided worse information than during Tropical Storm Irene, according to Haimoff. 

"I have the same frustrations as every other person in this town," she said.
