Police Investigate Rash of Attempted Business Burglaries

Police are looking for suspects in a rash of break-ins and attempted break-ins on Route 124 in Short Hills.

Police are investigating a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries into businesses along Route 124 in Short Hills that occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Millburn police officers who were investigating burglary at Mailboxes Etc, where someone broke-in through the rear door, they canvassed the area and discovered that someone had tried to pry open the rear doors of several other businesses, including Loehmann’s Shoes, , the Health Food Mart. While investigating, police found that the front door of Loehmann's was unlocked but an intial search of the building appeared that nothing was disturbed inside.

, which is in the same general location on Route 124, reported a burglary on Thursday, where someone had pried open the rear door using some kind of tool, according to police.

The owner reported to police that she had received a call from the alarm company at 3:30 a.m. when the alarm was activated, but did nothing about it at that time. When she arrived at the fitness center in the morning, she noticed that the rear door was open and there was damage to the dead-bolt lock, but nothing appeared to be taken, including a small amount of cash that was inside a drop safe.
