'Kids For Kids': A Children's Volunteer Event

‘Kids For Kids’, organized by
the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills, Inc. (JLOSH), and supported
in part by the Investors Foundation, will bring together local groups for a
morning of hands-on volunteering and fun at the George Bauer Community Center
in Taylor Park, Millburn, on Saturday, November 16. This is the second year
that this children’s volunteering event to help youngsters in need is being
held.



 



Contributing community groups
include Christ Church Cub Scout Pack #1, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Deerfield
Elementary School in Short Hills, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Family
Intervention Services, Inc., Girl Scout Troops #315, #20124, and #20898, Interfaith
Hospitality Network of Essex County, Inc., Millburn High School Key Club,
Mothers and More Maplewood-South Orange Chapter, Opportunity Project, Inc. of
Millburn in collaboration with AAA New Jersey Automobile Club and The Salvation
Army Orange Corps.

JLOSH
President Sara D’Andrea explained: “This wonderful event is possible because of
the collective efforts and support of our community partners. It is a great
example of how we can do so much more together. By planning this event and
including the younger generation, we hope to further spread the good work of
volunteerism.”



Sara
added: “We are inviting all children’s civic groups in the area to participate
in this collaborative event.  We want to
show that everyone, regardless of his or her age, can make a difference to our
community.”

The
activities, suitable for children aged six to eleven years, will include:



·        
Sorting
& organizing donated books for re-distribution to local kids in need



·        
Assembling hundreds of cold winter
essential and dental health kits to be distributed, via Community FoodBank of
New Jersey, to children receiving weekend meal backpacks



·        
Filling
bags with healthy afterschool snacks for programs servicing homeless and
at-risk youth



·        
Creating
handmade holiday greetings to be delivered to a local senior center and
included in hundreds of Thanksgiving Food Baskets



·        
Being
educated on bike safety and helping spread the word to children in nearby communities



·        
Meeting
and supporting the 2012-13 winners of JLOSH’s ‘The Littlest Volunteer Contest’,
a contest for children grades 1st-5th that asks the
question “what would you do to better your community”. ‘Kids For Kids’ day will
mark the kick-off of the 2013-14 contest that awards $100 for the most creative
idea.



‘Kids
For Kids’ takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, at the
George Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park, 100 Main Street, Millburn, NJ.
