Pianist Brandon McCune in a Tribute to Mulgrew Miller
Sunday, October 27th at 7 p.m.

Curated by Jazz Historian Sanford Josephson Featuring Ameen Saleem on Bass and Cecil Brooks III on Drums

Mulgrew Miller switched from gospel and R&B to jazz when he first heard Oscar Peterson play. "I was blown away," he said. "It was a life-changing event." But Miller, who died this past May, had a similar impact on many other jazz pianists, one of whom was Brandon McCune, whose Oct. 27 Luna Stage concert will be a tribute to his mentor. Miller would invite McCune to his house where the two of them would play the piano for hours. "He brought out a pillow and blanket for me when 2 a.m. rolled around," McCune told Jersey Jazz Magazine. "His wife made breakfast when the sun came up. Then back to the piano we went. I will always hear his voice saying, 'Mr. Brandon.'"

McCune is "one of the top players to come out of the post-young lions period." - Mark Ruffin, Program Director Real Jazz/Sirius XM.
