Understanding Common Core and Advocating For Your Child

There's been a lot of discussion about Common Core in our schools, but many are confused by the changes.  Want to understand Common Core? What are the benefits, what are the pitfalls?  Where does a parent start? Are the standards the solution we've needed to prepare all children for college, or is it “dumbing” them down? This free seminar is for anyone who wants to know more about Common Core.  Dr. Joseph Ricca, EdD, Superintendent of the Elmsford Union Free School District located in Westchester County, New York will be giving a presentation on what it all means, discuss the changes, and address our questions.   His professional career has included teaching social studies; serving as Vice Principal of Student Affairs at Haledon Public Schools; Principal of Roosevelt Elementary School; Principal of East Hanover Middle School and Superintendent of the East Hanover Township Public Schools.   Joe serves on the County College of Morris Board of Trustees as the Treasurer and Chair of both the Academic and Finance Committees, the Board of Trustees of Daytop New Jersey and is honored to serve as a gubernatorial appointee to New Jersey’s Task Force on Anti-Bullying.  Dr. Ricca holds a B.S. from Seton Hall University, a M.Ed. from Harvard University, a M.A. in Educational Administration from Caldwell College, and an Ed.D. from Walden University.
