Obit: Barbara Ann Sweeney

Mass for Short Hills woman will be on Monday at St. Rose of Lima Church

Editor's note: The following obituary about Barbara Ann Sweeney, who was killed by a train earlier this week at the Short Hills Station, is reprinted from the Bradley and Son Funeral Home website.

Barbara Ann Sweeney, 62 of Short Hills, NJ, died on June 14, 2011. Born in Sayre, Pa, Barbara was raised in Wheaton, Ill., and Short Hills, NJ, where she has lived since 1960. She received her Bachelor's of Arts Degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. Barbara was an Archivist for AT&T in Murray Hill for fourteen years. Most recently she was a records administrator for AIG in New York City. A Parishoner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Barbara loved to cook and travel. She was fluent in three languages. Barbara is pre-deceased by her father Matthew J. Sweeney and her brother-in-law Dr. Charles Engelhardt. She is survived by her mother Dorothy V. Sweeney, her four sisters Patricia Engelhardt of Longwood, Fla, Marita Kresge of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, Teresa Tyzbir of Rumson, NJ, Morna (Joseph) DePasquale of Boonton Township, NJ, her two brothers Matt (Judy) Sweeney of Nashville, TN, and Mark L. (Sharon) Sweeney of Pasadena, CA, thirteen nieces and nephews and three Godchildren. A Mass will be held on Monday, June 20 at 11:15 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills, NJ. Visitation Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. from the Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave, Springfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations in Barbara's name may be made to Hermits of Our Lady of Carmel, 80 Pleasant Hill Road, Chester, NJ 07930.
