After careful thought and much contemplating I have decided to voice my opinion on a situation that took place today on Essex Street. I very clearly witnessed a policeman in their police truck hit a cat crossing Essex St. This happened right in front of me so the details of the accident are very clear. Now I do understand it was not intentional however it was very clear that the officer saw the cat and knew he had struck it and the cat lie moving in the street after and he proceeded to go on his merry way. Their were no sirens or emergency he was obviously in route to and I am absolutely certain by what I saw the officer was well aware of the details of what had just happened. Needless to say I am disgusted! Here is someone who has the resources at their fingertips to stop and deal with traffic and asses the situation and see if he could help. At least that is what most kind hearted individuals would do. Again he went on his merry way. I then stopped traffic picked up the cat off the road and proceeded to the closest establishment for a towel to wrap the cat in in hopes to get to a vet and see if it could be treated because AGAIN THE CAT WAS STILL ALIVE AT THIS TIME!! Thinking this was the most humane thing to do than to leave the helpless thing in the middle of the road to be hit over and over by traffic on Essex Street a busy road. I only wish that a police officer who is suppose to be a role model and help and protect would have found it in his heart to do the same. Very disappointed to say the least.
