Budget, Snow Day Contingencies on School Board Agenda

The Millburn Board of Education meets at 7:45 p.m. Monday.

If you're looking for new and updated Millburn school budget documents, they'll be available at the school board meeting Monday night.

The board meets at Glenwood Elementary School at 7:45 p.m. One of the discussion items is further deliberations on the proposed 2011-12 school budget.

Those attending will be able to receive an updated "cut sheet," which will have a few special education and high school related items. There will be an enrollment chart showing figures from the past and projections moving forward.

Something that has been requested in the comments section in several Millburn-Short Hills Patch articles, including , has been for information on what the gap between revenue and expenses would be if everything stayed the same for 2011-12. The Baseline Budget Chart will show that information and will be available Monday night.

Detailed budget sheets showing each account will be available Monday night and an outline of the current health insurance program. Residents asked at the last school board meeting for more information on the current health insurance program.

School officials said in January they are looking for ways to close a gap between revenues and expenses. They presented a during a meeting last month. Decisions on items such as changing full-day kindergarten to half-day and eliminating a team of teachers at the middle school have not been made.

Crisfield also will discuss what will happen now that the district has used up all of its built-in snow days. There's an item under new business to discuss the contingency plan in case there is another snow day. The weather is supposed to be warmer this week, but there is the chance for more snow for a few more weeks.

The school board also will discuss the 2012-13 school calendar, which had been put on the shelf for more work in a committee. Board members said with how the days off and half days were laid out on the calendar, especially with school scheduled for the final week in June in 2013. The board will then approve the proposal.
