Millburn Community Members Lend a Hand in Appalachia

Members of Congregation B'nai Israel, along with Rabbi Steven Bayar hit the road last week for another successful trip to rural Kentucky  where their efforts brought an infusion of hope to this struggling Appalachian community hard hit by the closing of regional coal mines. The volunteers were hard at work on repairs to a house in McRoberts, a tiny town of about 600 people. The owner of the house operates a small food pantry from the property for area residents, and in addition to the home repairs, volunteers unloaded a 53-foot tractor-trailer filled with donated food and supplies to stock the pantry.  As in the past, The Good People Fund (www.goodpeoplefund.org) provided support by donating the funds to cover the rehabilitation of a local home. The program was organized by Congregation B地ai Israel in Millburn.
