A man who identified himself as an AT&T employee was apparently the only person to call 911 in the minutes after last month's fatal carjacking at The Mall at Short Hills.

"You got the shooting in the parking lot?," the man asked the police dispatcher during the 40-second phone call obtained by The Star-Ledger.

"Yeah, we're aware of it," the dispatcher responded. "What can you tell me?"

The caller said he did not witness the shooting and could not provide any further details, according to the recording.

It is not clear how police were initially notified of the shooting since the AT&T employee was the only person to call 911.

The four men accused of killing Dustin Friedland, 30, pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

Attorneys for Hanif Thompson, 29, of Irvington and Karif Ford, 31, Basim Henry, 32, and Kevin Roberts, 33, all of Newark, entered not guilty pleas before Judge Peter J. Vazquez.

All four men have been charged with murder, felony murder, carjacking, conspiracy and weapons possession.

If only this young man had the means to protect himself and his wife from those murderers....it's time now NJ gives us back or 2A Rights and CCL like in our other 48 States so we protect ourselves and our family members at home, on our streets and in our Malls.

If this guy had a gun who knows if he even had a chance to use it. There's too many guns in the hands of the element that comes into our neighborhoods and shopping centers. The mall should have had better security, and even at this point install license plate readers and more cameras to monitor the parking lots. We all know this mall brings in affluent clientele which is a magnet for the garbage that roams the streets in this county. Do something about the garbage possessing illegal hand guns.

Well, jfc....at least he would have had a chance...here, he had no chance at all. Put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself that question.
