Four Cars Robbed on JFK Parkway in an Afternoon, Police Say

Four parked cars in the business parking lots at 51 and 101 John F. Kennedy Parkway across from the The Mall at Short Hills were broken into between 2 and 6 p.m. on Jan. 11, Millburn police said.

Scott Dorfman, 31, of Cranford, told police when he entered the parking lot at about 2:30 p.m., he saw a young man in his car searching through his belongings. He told police, someone in a black Chevy Tahoe truck with tinted windows pulled up to Dorfman's car.

The driver shouted "let's get out of here," to the man in the car once he saw Dorfman, according to the report. The truck drove off toward JFK Parkway South.

Dorfman reported his gym bag and $150 worth of clothes were stolen. 

Dianna Sancho , 66, of Livingston, told police she returned to her car at 3 p.m. and saw her driver's side window smashed and passenger window damaged. 

Sancho reported her Apple iPad 3 and $1,400 Louis Vuitton purse with $100, credit cards and driver's license was taken.

Police said, following the two incidents involving damaged cars, an officer was patrolling the parking lots and noticed a BMW with damage to the driver's door. Police contacted the owner, John Schmidt, 65, of West Orange, and he returned to his car. 

According to the report, it appeared someone went through his glove compartment but nothing was missing. 

The final car was reported broken into at about 6:25 p.m., in the parking lots at 101 John F. Kennedy Parkway, police said.

Robert Cockren, 60, of Scotch Plains, told police he returned to his car to find all the windows of his Lexus halfway down and the glovebox popped out. 

Cockren reported no items were stolen.
