Newark Man Charged With Two Shoplifting Incidents in Short Hills

Millburn Police arrested two men and one woman over the weekend at The Mall at Short Hills and ShopRite, authorities said.

Police arrested two men and one woman in three shoplifting incidents over the weekend in Millburn-Short Hills, authorities said Monday.

In the first of the three incidents, a 50-year-old Newark man, Rafael Cuevas, was arrested Friday afternoon for swiping $279 in wireless headphones from the Apple Store, according to Capt. Bernie Neuhaus.

After an investigation, officers recognized Cuevas from a previous shoplifting incident from the Georgio Armani store on Sept. 28 when $450 pair of shoes went missing, Neuhaus said.

Cuevas was charged at 2 p.m. with both shoplifting incidents and was released pending a court date in Newark.

An hour later, Millburn Police arrested Frank Wiley, 39, of Irvington, for attempting to steal $37 in Advil from ShopRite on Main Street, according to reports.

Wiley was charged with shoplifting and was released pending a court date at Millburn Municipal Court.

On Saturday, a 46-year-old Annandale woman, Maria Amorim, attempted to steal $356 in clothing form Saks Fifth Avenue at The Mall at Short Hills just after 2 p.m., Neuhaus said.

According to Neuhasu, Amorim tried to hide two pieces of clothing as she walked out of the store without paying.

Amorim was charged and released with a court date in Newark.
