Police Investigate Two Downtown Apartment Burglaries

Also, police investigate three thefts at the Mall at Short Hills.

Two burglaries were reported in a Millburn Avenue apartment building last Friday, and police are seeking information from the public.

Police responded to an apartment in the downtown building at 291 Millburn Ave. and found the door had been pried open and the bedroom was ransacked. Police said missing items included jewelry, but a full list was not available at the time of the report. Police believe the incident happened between 10 a.m. and the time of the report at 3:40 p.m.

Police said officers located pry marks on a second door while canvassing the building and found the apartment also was burglarized. Police said the bedroom had been ransacked, and the resident reported the theft of a video game system and games with a combined value of $800.

Scarves and Shopping Bag Stolen; One Arrested for Shoplifting

Police investigated three thefts at the Mall at Short Hills during the last week and made one arrest.

The staff at Neiman Marcus reported on Friday night an individual concealed 15 Burberry scarves in a shopping bag and exited the mall to the parking decks. Police searched the area but were not able to locate the individual. The scarves have a combined value of $3,525.

A Morris Plains couple reported the theft of a shopping bag while shopping in Macy's on Thursday. The bag contained a previous purchase of a scarf from Nordstrom valued at $98. The couple had placed the bag on the ground, and it was gone after they tried on garments. Police believe the theft occurred between 12:30-1 p.m.
