Township Employees Plead Guilty to Theft, Sentencing Scheduled

A seven-year employee of the township's recreation department and 25-year Millburn Public Worker will appear in Superior Court for sentencing.

Two Millburn Township employees accused of theft will appear in court over the next few weeks for sentencing after pleading guilty in July, authorities said.

Jennifer Lubisco, 33, of Millburn, was charged March 27 with stealing money from the township while working as a customer service representative for the township recreation department, said Kathy Carter, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.

Her sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. in Newark Superior Court before Judge Michael L. Ravin.

According to Carter, the seven-year township employee pleaded guilty in July. Under her original charges, Lubisco faced up to five years in state prison, but the details of the plea bargain were not available.

Although, the exact amount of money Lubisco was charged with stealing was unknown, an internal audit between January 2011 and August 2012 revealed approximately $8,000 was missing, Carter said.

Another township employee who will soon be sentenced is Anthony Boffa, 44, of Springfield, who was charged with buying landscaping products through the township and giving them to a private landscaper to pay a personal debt.

The 25-year Millburn public worker is scheduled to appear in Newark Superior Court at Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. before Superior Court Judge Sherry A. Hutchins-Henderson.

According to Carter, Boffa was charged on March 5 with third-degree theft by deception and pleaded guilty last month. However, the details of his plea bargain were also unknown.

Boffa was charged with buying 85 bags of fertilizer and 112 bags of limestone, a total value of approximately $1,800, and gave them to a private landscaper to pay a personal debt.
