Two Unlocked Cars Burglarized, One Stolen in Short Hills Overnight

Sometime Saturday night to Sunday morning, cars on Hartshorn Drive and Great Hills Road were burglarized and one Cayuga Way was stolen.

Three cars were burglarized sometime Saturday night into early Sunday morning in Short Hills, Millburn Police said.

According to police, residents reported their cars on Hartshorn Drive and Great Hills Road were broken into overnight Sunday, Feb. 3, and one car parked on Cayuga Way was stolen.

Police said a Caryuga Way resident reported her BMW was parked overnight on the street in front of her home. When she woke up she noticed her car was gone.

The resident told police she was unsure whether the car was locked.

According to a report, a GPS, valued at $100, and $10 in loose change was stolen from an unlocked Ford Mustang parked at a Hartshorn Drive residence.

Police also reported the glove box of a Mercedes Benz parked on Great Hills Road was rifled through. There was no damage or anything missing from the car.

Just amazing after all of the auto's that have been burglarized these past few years with multiple warnings from the police not to leave cars unlocked, keys left in the car and valuables, what planet are these people on. I don't like to blame the victim, but with the latest police report, they should be blamed. The stupidity is amazing!

More unlocked cars; it's truly hard to believe and invites more criminals into our town.

If only there was some way of locking car doors it might deter thieves. Someone needs to invent a locking car door mechanism, perhaps one that could be activated by remote control.

Jill....that would be a miracle. Next thing they need to invent is a remote-controlled device to remove water from the windshield.

these people think they are better than everyone else

As a chronic door locker, I wonder how they forget to do such a simple thing as well. Then I went outside yesterday morning to scrape the snow from my car (insert sheepish grin here) and pulled the door open. Whoops. Mistakes happen. Usually when juggling kids and groceries and school and work gear while someone needs to go the the bathroom RIGHT NOW but the house door is triple locked and the keys are stuffed in a deep pocket due to aforementioned juggling......

Yes indeed Sarah ~ and it has nothing to do with being rich or dumb as teamster1161 seems to think. Perhaps it has to do with too much mult-tasking or with being harried. Your 'juggling' is a good explanation :>) However, getting into the habit of locking car doors and taking the keys with you could only help. Our car is always locked after we exit and usually parked in the garage with the garage door closed. BUT, I went into the garage this morning and that "always locked" car door ... wasn't! Whoops for me too! At least the garage door was in the down position and locked.
