Woman Accused of Sending Threatening Letters to Millburn Police

Irvington resident faces federal charges for allegedly sending letters to the U.S. Supreme Court, Rutgers, Woodbridge and Millburn Police.

An Irvington woman was arrested on a federal charge after she sent letters threatening bodily harm to the U.S. Supreme Court, town hall in Woodbridge Township and other recipients throughout New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman announced Tuesday.

Members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested Karen Waller, 50, at her home on Tuesday morning. She was charged with one count of mailing threatening communications, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The criminal complaint filed against Waller stated she mailed more than 50 threatening letters during May and June to the U.S. Supreme Court, town hall in Woodbridge, Rutgers University, the Millburn Township police department and an insurance company, which threatened to injure and kill unspecified individuals, Fishman said.

The charge against Waller carries a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
