Deer Program Results Are In

Fifty deer removed in Millburn's hunt

Interested parties will have to wait until Monday for the results of the Essex County deer culling program, but the results are in for Millburn's program.

During Tuesday's Township Committee meeting, James Suell, a committee member, reported 50 total deer were removed from the East Orange Water Commission property and the Oakey Tract. Both pieces of property are off of John F. Kennedy Parkway.

Of the total, 43 deer were taken from the East Orange Water Commission property and seven were taken from the Oakey Tract.

The project cost $3,800 this year, which was slightly less than expected, Suell said.

Millburn completed its program on Feb. 14, receiving assistance from the United Bow Hunters Association for this year's culling activities.

South Mountain Reservation has also been subject to a deer hunt, and the program was run by Essex County. Millburn approved the hunt last December. Essex County officials will release the results of the hunt during a press conference at noon on Monday.
