Jeff Corzine, Son of Former Governor, Dead at 31

Jeff Corzine had been working as a drug counselor in California.

Jeff Corzine, the 31-year-old son of former NJ Gov. Jon Corzine has died, according to various media reports.

Jeff had been in and out of rehab for his entire life and suffered from depression, , according to the New York Post. He had been working as a drug counselor in California.

“On Tuesday morning, he succumbed to his disease and made the tragic decision to take his own life,” a Jon Corzine spokesperson told the Post.

“Mr. Corzine is obviously devastated by this tragic loss,” the spokesperson said. “We ask that all respect his family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Jeff, along with Josh and Jennifer, was one of three children of Jon and Joanne Corzine.

Gov. Chris Christie Thursday sent his condolences to the Corzine family.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Governor Corzine, Joanne and the entire Corzine family on the tragic loss of Jeffrey," Christie said in a statement Thursday. They are both devoted parents and the loss they have suffered is unthinkable. Mary Pat and I send our personal condolences and condolences on behalf of all the people of New Jersey to the Corzine family during these very sad times."

New Jersey Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick also issued a statement Thursday.

"On behalf of the Assembly Republican Caucus, I wish to offer our condolences to Governor Corzine, his family, friends and loved ones," said Bramnick. "It is a terrible tragedy to lose one’s son or daughter. May he rest in peace."
