Traffic Issues Continue to Dominate Stop & Shop Hearing

Hearings continued Monday for the proposed Stop & Shop at the old Sake Fifth Avenue location, according to published reports.

With an end of year deadline, the conversation continued Monday night over the construction of the Springfield Stop & Shop that proposed to have trucks enter the supermarket on Millburn Avenue.

A planner for Village Supermarket, parent-company of ShopRite, argued the proposed Stop & Shop's added traffic will not comply Millburn Township's ordinance for a B-3 Neighborhood Zone, the Millburn-Short Hills Item reports.

The planner, the Alternative Press reported, supported the proposal for trucks to enter from driveways on Morris Avenue, eliminating truck traffic on Millburn Avenue.

The acting chairperson of the Zoning Board announced last month a decision will be made by the end of the year.

The next meetings scheduled on the issue is set for Oct. 7, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.

The Stop & Shop is proposed for the old Saks Fifth Avenue location, 92 Millburn Ave. in Short Hills.

Although that property is located in Springfield, Millburn has jurisdiction on the 20-foot piece of land entering the property, the township engineer, Thomas Watkinson, said previously.
