MHS Boys' Tennis Team Sails into Sectional Semifinals

An easy win over Belleville starts the NJSIAA tournament for Millburn.

Rain may have forced the Millburn High School varsity tennis team indoors to begin their run at the state championship on Monday, but inside the Brooklake Country Club tennis facility, the weather was just right.

The Millers, seeded No. 1 in the early round sectional competition, lost just one game overall in defeating Belleville High School 5-0.

All three singles players double-bageled their opponents in quick succession. Jon Duan scored the first team point, beating Brian Ramirez 6-0, 6-0, at the third singles position.

Dean Koman, at second singles, followed shortly with a shutout against Stephen Daroy.

Not to be outdone, first singles Tyler Schick clinched the match-winning third point with his 6-0,6-0 victory against Russell Garcellano.

The doubles teams took to the courts next, but not for long, as both duos dispatched their opponents in short order.

First doubles Brian Alter and Keith Knopp handed a 6-0,6-1 loss to Belleville's Aristotle Olega and Adrian Pangilinan.

Second doubles Andrew Giles and Jason Ginsburg allowed no games for Christopher Ronquillo and Kenneth Pinano, notching a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The Millers, whose overall record is now 19-2, are scheduled to play the semifinal round against fourth-seeded West Morris High School from Chester on Wednesday.
