Millburn Superintendent Presents Revised District Goals

Let us know what you think about the board's revised goals in the comments!

Millburn's Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield presented revised district goals with action plans for the 2012-13 school year at a recent Board of Education meeting.

"From the feedback we received, we developed some more wording to flesh out a little more on each of the three goals" Crisfield said.

When the goals were presented in a July meeting the board asked for more clarity how the goals would be achieved. Some board member originally said the goals were too vague.

But at Monday's meeting, the board agreed the revised plan Crisfield presented are more improved and clear.

"I think they're a lot better than before, they are more defined," board member Jean Pasternak said.

The district will continue its second year working on a strategic plan for the town's school system.

A new initiative the district will implement is a new teacher evaluation system. The state has given the New Jersey school district a year to pilot a new teacher evaluation program, which Millburn will start this year as a two-year goal.

The final goal is to update the district's technology. The current plan expires this year. Crisfield explained, the plan needs to be approved by the winter and sent to county officials for review so it can be effective in the 2013-14 school year.

Board member Lisa Chapman asked Crisfield and Dr. Christine Burton how the technology will be integrated into the classrooms, explaining a broader view of the goal of technology in elementary, middle and high schools.

Burton explained the action plan defines those views through state guidelines.

Each board member was given a detailed action plan for each of the goals.

The complete list of district goals are listed below:

  1. Develop a strategic plan (Year 2 of 2)
