According to Millburn High School English Department Chair Jessica Siegel, it was Mr. McDougall’s suggestion to organize a charity race along with a book signing in order to more fully give back, She says “We are excited to get this endeavor off the ground and have succeeded with the support of the mayor, community members, and our very own cross country coaches!”

The Born to Run 3K will take place at 5pm on October 24th. It will circle behind the high school, through and around Main Street and Taylor Park before ending back on the high school track. After the race, there will be refreshments (provided by the Millburn Education Association) before the book signing which will take place in the gym at 6:30 pm.

There will be prizes for top men and women, top high school, middle school, and elementary (grades 3-5) runners. The registration fee is $15.00 and all proceeds will benefit two local organizations, The Education Foundation of Millburn-Short Hills, whose donations to the school district have included helping fund the annual Big Read, and Down the Block, which helps local families who need a helping hand. Registered runners/walkers receive a t-shirt commemorating the event.

Ms. Siegel explains, “Two years ago, we revamped summer reading to celebrate what books mean to us. We wanted to instill in our students that reading isn’t only “assigned” but that it is and can be fun. We hope this race will further our aims.”
