Retiring Police Capt. To Take Security Job in Millburn Schools

Capt. Michael Palardy will start as district security coordinator Sept. 3.

The Millburn Board of Education voted Monday night to hire a retiring police captain as the first security for the school district.

Capt. Michael Palardy will take up the his new post in the school district starting Sept. 3, he told Patch.

"My goals is to keep the students and faculty safe with the least amount of intrusion on the educational environment," he said.

The district will pay Palardy an annual salary of $43,000 for a 10-and-a-half month work-year, according to Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield.

"I love having him on board," Crisfield said. "He's going to add an element of prevention and planning to take us to the next level."

According to Palardy, he will be leaving the Millburn Police Department on Aug. 30. He will use his acquired time off before officially retiring in February.

Additionally, the district will also hire two part-time security guards at the Middle School, Crisfield said. He added, the High School has had two full-time security guards for many years.
