South Mountain Students Score Big at Destination Imagination

Team finishes second in statewide competition.

Submitted by SMS PTO

South Mountain School team Six Emojis won first place in the improv challenge at the state Destination Imagination competition on March 29.  They will compete in the Global Finals in Tennessee in May.

Destination Imagination is an organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity, teamwork and problem solving.

Second place finishers, The DI-fi's, worked on the Technical Challenge in which they were charged with the task of creating a structure using technology to detect hidden objects, remove them from their hiding spaces, and move them across a finish line.

All of this was incorporated into a skit that was appraised for its creativity and storytelling strength. The team worked during the school day with SMS music teacher Brooke Barski to strengthen their skills for the Instant Challenge, an additional, "mini" challenge they were presented with at the competition and had only a few minutes' preparation time to solve.

Parent team managers were Michelle Daniel and Alyssa Russo led meetings outside of school.
