What Millburn Elementary Schools are Doing on MLK Jr. Day

Schools are in session on Monday but it's not an average day. Check out below what a few of the elementary schools have planned.

Here's what going on at Hartshorn, Deerfield and Wyoming elementary schools on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Hartshorn School

Peer Leaders from the Middle School will be visiting Hartshorn from about 9 to 11:30 a.m. school tp help promote Dr. King’s messages, especially from the book Martin's Big Words that the elementary school students will be reading that day.

Also visiting Hartshorn that day will be Assemblywoman Mila Jasey. Dr. Crisfield will escort her there to see and participate in their MLK day activities. Three MHS interns who work with Assemblywoman Jasey (seniors Ana Gracie and Lexi Tonelli and junior Chase Harrison) who may also be able to attend. It is expected that Ms. Jasey will be there between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.

a couple of other "special guests" who will be visiting Hartshorn on Monday, Ms. E. Betty Levin, an 87 year old Millburn resident and "peace advocate",  and Mrs. Hartshorn.

Deerfield School 

The whole student body will be making sustainable lunches for the bridges program throughout the school day. 

Wyoming School

Linda Humes, a storyteller, will be presenting an assembly for all students, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10 a.m.

Some info on her presentation: “A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and His Times - Linda H Humes accompanied by a master musician celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement through monologue, story and song. This piece also recognizes the contributions of Rosa Parks , Fannie Lou Hamer and the courageous efforts of conscious people across the color and religious line who fought for freedom and equality.”
