Millburn 7th & 8th Grade Travel Softball On a Roll

Team rallies after slow start.

More than 40 girls attended the two-day tryout for this year's 7th-8th grade travel softball team.  The competition was fierce with only 17 girls making the final cut.

Many of the girls who made the team have been involved in the Town's travel softball program for many years.  Coached by Dan Baer, Mark Abrams and Steve Opaczewski, the 7th-8th grade team has be extremely competitive in its first set of games against Suburban league opponents.

After three very close losses, two to an undefeated Cedar Grove team, and one last inning loss to Verona, the team has rebounded and has played inspired ball.

Last week the Middle School Millers pounded Glen Ridge 13-3, which saw six players steal home during the game. After falling behind Verona 4-0, the team came back to win 7-5.  This year's team consists of solid batting and stellar in-field play.

The outfield has been more than up to the task, making some spectacular catches. All in all, the team is exciting to watch.  Such talent bodes well for the future of the High School's softball program.  For information on the team's schedule, go to the Millburn Recreation Department’s website.
