Millburn Girls Volleyball Squad Downed in Essex County Tournament
Lady Millers Defeated by Cedar Grove 25-13, 25-4
The 21st seeded Millburn High Girls Volleyball squad traveled to Cedar Grove Saturday to face the 12th seeded Panthers in an opening round match of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday.
The Millburn squad, led by Seniors Kerry Justich, Allie Weissenberg and Nicole Weissman, has started the season with victories in five of their first seven matches. But the Cedar Grove team proved too powerful for the Millers defeating them two games to none by scores of 25-13 and 25-4.
In the opening game, Millburn jumped out to a 3-0 lead lead on the strength of serves from Michelle Pomerantz, including an ace. But the Millers lead was short-lived as the Panthers stormed back to take a 18-5 lead on the strength of their well-placed kills and potent service game. The Millers battled back with an 8-4 run to close the gap to 22-13 before the home team closed out the set at 25-13.
