Millburn High Lacrosse Coach Resigns to Assist College Team

Head Coach Bill McCutcheon is stepping down to take a job as assistant coach at Monmouth University.

Millburn High School is losing its varsity lacrosse coach. The Alternative Press reported that Bill McCutcheon is leaving the position he has held for three years—and an athletic program he transformed—to take an assistant coach job at Monmouth University.

Before McCutcheon came to the school in 2010, the article said, the team had endured a 6-10 season. His arrival created a marked change: Millburn's lacrosse squad earned playoff spots in the next three years. The team went 14-5 during McCutcheon's first season as head coach and made the post-season quarterfinals. In 2012, Millburn went 12-8 in the regular season and lost in the semifinal round of the playoffs. And in the most recent season, the team's record won 14, lost seven and lost the semifinal playoff in a close game to Ridgewood.

There is some potential good news for MHS laxers: One McCutcheon may remain on the staff. The coach's father, Bill McCutcheon Sr., served as an assistant coach for Millburn and may continue in the role. The article noted, however, the return of the senior McCutcheon and fellow assistant coach Pat Healy has not yet been confirmed.
