Give Blood for the Fourth of July

Take the opportunity to help out your fellow Americans this July 4 with a blood donation in Memorial Park in Maplewood.

The Blood Center of New Jersey reports that there is a "severe summer blood shortage." And the group is working to combat it with a blood mobile at a popular crowded event.

You can donate blood this July 4 at a blood mobile on Oakview Avenue in Memorial Park in Maplewood from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Donors will receive a $15 ShopRite card.

The Blood Center reports that blood donations "will be used for the patients in our area hospitals who require life saving blood transfusions. It could be someone in your family, a friend, a neighbor, a coworker... a baby, a mother, a police officer, a firefighter... we never know who it will be."

Donors are reminded to eat before donating and bring ID.
