New Eyes Receives $7,500 Grant

The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey awarded Short Hills-based New Eyes for the Needy a $7,500 grant to purchase new prescription eyeglasses for disadvantaged residents of Essex, Morris and Union counties.
 
"We are so thankful to The Healthcare Foundation for investing in New Eyes' mission to give clear sight to poor children and adults in New Jersey," said Susan M. Dyckman, New Eyes for the Needy executive director. "The foundation's grant will make sure that 125 people get the glasses and clear sight they need to enjoy a better quality of life on their journey toward self-sufficiency."
 
New Eyes helped 730 poor New Jersey residents to see clearly in 2009-10. It's 18 percent of the total number of eyeglasses purchased by New Eyes over the past year.
 
New Eyes suggests different ways for people to contribute and help its cause:

• Make a $60 donation and purchase a pair of eyeglasses for someone in need.
• Donate unused prescription glasses, reading glasses and sunglasses for recycling.
• Clean out drawers and donated unwanted jewelry and giftware for re-sale in New Eyes' Fabulous Finds Jewelry & Giftware showroom.
• Host a collection drive for eyeglasses, jewelry and giftware.
• Volunteer at the New Eyes' office in Short Hills, NJ.
