Overlook Elects Short Hills Man to Board

The hospital's foundation has asked a local man to serve on its board of trustees.

The Overlook Foundation has appointed a Short Hills resident to its board of trustees.

James C. Kellogg, 73, who was born at Overlook Hospital, will serve a three-year term on the board. Previously, Kellogg also served as president of the NJ Community Foundation, a position which he left in 2002. His position on the board will have him working to ensure the hospital is adequately funded and able to continue to provide the best possible service to its patients.

“We are delighted to welcome Jim… to the foundation board,” said Stephen B. Stone, Chairman of Overlook Foundation Board of Trustees. “Each [of our new members] brings a unique range of talents, expertise and perspective to our fundraising mission on behalf of Overlook Medical Center.”

Kellogg worked as an investment banker for three years in the ‘70s before switching careers and becoming an attorney. Though he said he does not see his professional background transferring much to work on the Overlook Board of Trustees, he does believe his background in public service will be an asset to the hospital.

“The NJ Community Foundation background is helpful,” said Kellogg. “That acts as a supporting role for all the charities in the state. It’s helpful for Overlook to know what over charities are doing.”

According to Kenneth Cole, Senior Director of Planned Giving and Capital Campaigns, Kellogg has been a benefactor for the hospital since the 1980s.

Kellogg has served on the boards of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, New Jersey Transit, Prudential Insurance, Children’s Specialized Hospital and Bloomfield College.

Other local residents elected to the Overlook Board of Trustees include Bruce F. Wesson, Beverly J. Luehs and Christopher A. Coates from Summit and Stacy Wilson McCann from Madison.

The Overlook Foundation finished its Next Century of Healing Campaign in Oct. 2011. It was one of the hospitals largest and most successful fundraisers. The campaign raised $110.1 million dollars from community donations and matched funds for the transformation of Overlook Medical Center. Atlantic Health Group, the parent company of Overlook, matched the public’s donations dollar for dollar.
