To answer the prior commentor, I noticed today that it appears that Bagel Chateau is moving to a new space two doors down from their existing space (there is a sign outside). That is likely why they only did the minimum after Irene to get open again. The focus is on getting the new space ready.
Bagel Chateau
973-379-1099
This Jersey bagel landmark opens its doors every day, year round, to provide the quintessential bagel and flagel (flat + bagel). It's carrying on with forefather Izzy Goldberg's secret recipe and the brick oven/wooden plank tradition of the original Bronx bakery, which was opened in 1928. Besides bagels, they also offer soups, omelets, deli sandwiches and even burgers. The Bagel Chateau has a branch in Maplewood as well.

Food is great, but facility is unmaintained and run down. I'm a frequent customer, but the place is really dingy and at least 10 years overdue for a renovation. The inside hasn't been painted in ages, not even a fresh coat after hurricane Irene flowed through the place.

Bagels are good and spreads are excellent but the bathroom smelled like farts last time I was in there.
