Parks and Recreation Facilities

Millburn is home to three parks, a community pool and a par 3 golf course.

Taylor Park, 16 acres

Located on Main Street. Call 973-564-7750 for info.
The Bauer Community Center is located in the park.
The Bauer Community Center is home to the Teen Center. It is open September through March on Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11 p.m.
The park also has ball fields, a pond, tennis and basketball courts, walking paths and a playground.

Gero Park, 36 acres

Located on White Oak Ridge Road.
The park is home to the Gero Park Recreation Building. Call 973-379-2221 for info.
It has ball fields, lighted tennis, basketball and roller hockey courts and a playground.
It's also home to the town pool and par 3 golf course.

Township Pool

Located in Gero Park on White Oak Ridge Road. Call 973-376-3822 for info.
It is open to all town residents Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The main pool has a water slide; there is a wading pool with a water umbrella.
There are changing rooms, a snack bar, a swim team and swimming lessons.

Township Par 3 Golf Course

Located in Gero Park on White Oak Ridge Road. Call 973-379-4156 for info.
Opens each year on April 1.
Memberships available to all residents; a limited number of employed-in-town and out-of-town memberships are available.

Old Short Hills Park, 41 acres

Located on Old Short Hills Road.
Open for passive recreation, including walking and picnicking.
Home of Greenwood Gardens.

Downtown Millburn

Downtown Millburn stretches from Locust St. to Douglas St. and from Brookside St. to Spring St./Willow St. (map).
The area is represented by the Downtown Millburn Development Alliance (DMDA), which covers 500 properties.
The DMDA publishes a shopping and dining guide each year with a map of the area.

The Mall at Short Hills

The mall is located on the west side of town, just off of Route 24 near JFK Parkway.
The mall features 160 stores and restaurants.

Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce provides a restaurant guide on its Web site.

Races, Parades & Street Fairs

Who to Call: Contact the Millburn Police Traffic Bureau at 973-564-7001.

No formal permits are required to hold a race, parade or street fair, but the police department must be informed of the plans.
Police oversight is required if streets need to be closed for an event.

Senior Abuse

Who to Call: In an emergency, dial 911. Otherwise, call the Millburn Police at 973-564-7001 or the state Adult Protective Services at 800-792-8820 or 973-624-2528, ext. 135.

Cases of senior abuse can be reported to the police. Alternatively, the state Department of Health and Senior Services has an Adult Protective Services program.
All cases are kept confidential.

Child Abuse

Who to Call: For emergencies, dial 911. You can also contact the Millburn Police Department at 973-564-7001 or the state Department of Children and Families on its 24-hour hotline, 877-NJ-ABUSE.

Cases of known child abuse can be reported to the police. Cases of suspected child abuse can be reported to the NJ Department of Children and Families.
All cases are kept confidential.

Trash

Who to Call: Contact the Department of Public Works at 973-564-7060. Tim Monahan is the Superintendent of Public Works. He can be reached at publicworks@millburntwp.org.

Trash is collected twice per week.
Yard waste such as grass clippings, small branches and leaves can be put out during the first trash collection of the week.
"White goods," which include large appliances, are collected by appointment. Call 973-564-7060 to make an appointment.

Building Permits

Who to Call: Conact the Building Department at 973-564-7055. Stephen Jones is the Construction Code Official. He can be reached at buildingdept@millburntwp.org.

The Building Department issues building permits and administers the associated zoning approvals.
Zoning permits are required for exterior building and site improvements. Permits are also required for a change in property use.
The department is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for all questions on permits.

Town Code Overview

The Town Code includes the town's ordinances.
The ordinances are set by the Township Committee.
The township clerk maintains the Town Code.

Property Maintenance

The intent of the Property Maintenance Code is "to protect the public health, safety and welfare by establishing minimum standards governing the maintenance, appearance and condition of properties in the Township; to preserve property values in the Township; to prevent and eliminate blighting conditions and depreciation of property values which may adversely affect adjacent or surrounding properties; to fix certain responsibilities and duties on owners and occupants; to provide for administration and enforcement; and to fix penalties for violation of this Property Maintenance Code."
Lawns should be cut to six inches or less. Landscaping, shrubs, bushes and hedges are to be kept so they are not overgrown or unruly.
Windows are to be kept so they are not broken, not missing a pane and in good repair.
Fences are to be kept in good repair.
Building exteriors should be free of peeling paint.
The Building Department oversees property maintenance issues. The department can be reached at 973-564-7055.
A code enforcement officer reviews property deemed to have a possible violation. If there is a violation, the officer notifies the property owner in writing.
The violation can be appealed to the town administrator within 10 days of the notice. A hearing must be held within 10 days of the appeal.
