- The intent of the Property Maintenance Code is "to protect the public health, safety and welfare by establishing minimum standards governing the maintenance, appearance and condition of properties in the Township; to preserve property values in the Township; to prevent and eliminate blighting conditions and depreciation of property values which may adversely affect adjacent or surrounding properties; to fix certain responsibilities and duties on owners and occupants; to provide for administration and enforcement; and to fix penalties for violation of this Property Maintenance Code."
- Lawns should be cut to six inches or less. Landscaping, shrubs, bushes and hedges are to be kept so they are not overgrown or unruly.
- Windows are to be kept so they are not broken, not missing a pane and in good repair.
- Fences are to be kept in good repair.
- Building exteriors should be free of peeling paint.
- The Building Department oversees property maintenance issues. The department can be reached at 973-564-7055.
- A code enforcement officer reviews property deemed to have a possible violation. If there is a violation, the officer notifies the property owner in writing.
- The violation can be appealed to the town administrator within 10 days of the notice. A hearing must be held within 10 days of the appeal.
