Police Chief to Discuss Town's Safety Issues

Short Hills Association hosts public meeting with Millburn Police Chief on Thursday at the Library.

The rash of vehicle burglaries and car thefts, as well as two recent carjackings and some home break-ins, have prompted many residents to call for a Town Hall meeting on crime and safety. While it's not a Town Hall meeting per se, the Short Hills Association is hosting a meeting with Millburn Police Chief Greg Weber to allow him to address crime and safety concerns. The public meeting will take place Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Millburn Library.

Township Reviews Multi-Million Dollar Drainage Options

Committee will also spend up to $43,000 to study ways to improve the sanitary sewer system.

The Millburn Township Committee on Tuesday decided to spend up to $43,000 for an in-depth study of its sanitary sewer system to find out just how much it will cost to make improvements to prevent it from overflowing into residents' homes and into the streets during big storms. Part of the South Mountain neighborhood, in particular, was hit hard during Hurricane Irene – not by the storm itself but by sewerage that filled their basements and first floors of their homes long before the Rahway River breeched its banks and flood walls. The study will look at Millburn’s pipes and the pipes leading into area’s system, run by the Joint Committee, which serves seven communities. One of the issues for Millburn is that the flow from all of those …

McKeon Answers Questions About Anti-Bullying Law (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Audience members at a symposium talked about both the financial burden of the law as well as issues around enforcement.

The "Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights" created a financial burden on school districts as well as an implementation and enforcement burden that was often poorly executed by school staff — according to attendees at a symposium in Newark today. Assemblyman John F. McKeon fielded those comments and other questions and said he was open to criticisms and feedback regarding the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights after he gave the keynote speech at the day-long anti-bullying symposium at Seton Hall University School of Law this morning. The symposium came just a week after little-known Council of Local Mandates struck down four provisions of the anti-bullying law as an unfunded mandate. McKeon (D-27th District) sponsored both the Anti-Bullying Bill of …

Let's remember that the $59 million figure is ONLY for hiring the coordinators for each district. What does a coordinator coordinate? Spending, of course. The $59 million is just to hire the people who will decide how to spend anti-bullying money. The total cost statewide is likely to be triple that amount. Madness.   more ›

I hate to rain on your parade, but an article in the New York Times several years ago revealed that 80% of the hair donated to this organization is not used. I think your intent was lovely, and it is possible that things have improved since the article was published, but people might want to get more facts before they make a donation to Locks of Love. The Times article can be found here: http://…   more ›
