Group IV state champion Millburn High School enters the Tournament of Champions as top seed.
Millburn High School's boys varsity tennis team won its fifth straight group title Wednesday in the NJSIAA Groups competition, held at Mercer County Park in West Windsor — crowning the team Group IV champions. The Millburn team will defend its Tournament of Champions title next week as it competes with five other group champions as first seed. In the groups competition, the Millers drew a tough semifinal competitor in Livingston High School. Though Millburn had defeated Livingston in their previous meetings this season, a win was by no means assured. New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.
The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. Senior Ian Riddell threw his second shutout of the season to lift the Millburn High School varsity baseball team to a 6-0 victory over Newark Barringer in Monday's opening round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 playoffs Monday in Millburn. Riddell improved to 6-0 this season and 16-1 for his career with a tidy, four-hitter that included six strikeouts and no walks. Max Jacobs came through with a two-run single to break a scoreless tie in the 4th inning for Millburn. Riddell followed with a sacrifice fly and Will Shiebler added an RBI single as Millburn (22-4) extended its lead to 4-0 after four innings. Millburn High's boys varsity tennis team has continued its post-season run with a series of hard-fought wins. Last Thursday, the Millers beat a determined Westfield High team in the NJSIAA North 2 section semifinal. On Monday they defeated a tough Ridge High School in the section finals to win a berth in the Group 4 semifinal competition at Mercer County Park on Wednesday. The section final against Ridge -- which brought with it an 18-2 record --was played indoors at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park. In that match, Millburn's first doubles team of Andrew Nolff and Evan Imegwu scored the first team point, quickly dispatching Ridge's Ryan Weinerman and Kevin Yan, 6-1, 6-2. Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. The 7-5 victory over Fair Lawn extended Millburn's overall record to 20-4 this season.
The Millburn varsity baseball team celebrated "Senior Day,'' honoring its players from the Class of 2013, with a 7-5 victory over Fair Lawn at Millburn High School Tuesday. Junior Conor Murray clinched the victory when he hit a two-run single and eventually came around to score from second base on a sacrifice bunt to extend the team's lead to 7-2. All five of Millburn's healthy seniors not only played but also contributed to the victory. Senior Ian Riddell was the starting pitcher and tossed the first five innings to improve his record to 5-0 on the season. The softball team's 8-5 victory on Tuesday, brings the team to 5-17 for the season.
The Millburn High School softball team beat Belleville, 8-5, Tuesday, sparked by a Gwyn Haertel three-run home run in the 6th inning. Belleville had a 4-run lead in the second inning but eventually lost it, giving Jenna Dembner her fifth victory for Millburn, according to NJ.com. The win brings the team's record up to 5-17 for the season.

The Millburn girls' team takes home the title for lowest combined score, 177, as well as the lowest individual score of a 38, shot by senior Claire Serruto.
Millburn won the North Jersey Girls Golf League conference championship, taking home the individual title and as a team at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit this week. High school senior Claire Serruto won as an individual with a score of 38 and Millburn shot a 177 as a team, the Star Ledger reported.
