The store is this month celebrating 26 years in Millburn.
Gotham City Clothing is a teen girl's shopping paradise—but the store is well past its teens. Opened in June 1984, the mother-daughter team behind the trendy boutique is this year celebrating 26 years in Millburn. The store has remained a mainstay in the ever-changing Millburn Avenue scene by staying ahead of the trends. They were among the first to carry world-famous brands such as Free People, Juicy Couture, Seven Jeans and J brand jeans, among others. "We had Juicy Couture when they were in their infancy," said co-owner Gail Levy. "We had them when they were just a basic v-neck t-shirt." The downtown jeweler creates unique designs for its loyal customers.
"How are you? How's Karen? And the kids?" muses Jhanna Krentsel as she rushes from behind the diamond display cases at her namesake jewelry store with an ear-to-ear smile and her arms opened wide. One of her many loyal customers just walked through the door to the Millburn Avenue store, Jhanna Fine Jewelers. "It's so great to see you!" she says as she gives Mark Caplan a kiss on the cheek. Her husband, Rudy Shtainhorn, emerges through the corner doorway that leads to the room where all of the custom designs turn into one-of-a-kind rings, brooches, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Many ladies spend their Saturdays shopping; others head to a friend's to catch up over lunch or a cup of coffee. In Millburn, home to one-of-a-kind Shala's Gifts, there's no need to choose. "If a week or two has gone by and I haven't had my Shala and Vicky dose, I'll drive to Millburn and sit in that chair next to Shala's desk and chat with them," said Tamara Hammer of Chatham. She is one of the many loyal customers who are known to stop by on Saturday afternoons, whether to shop, browse or chat.
