Medevac Lands on I-78 for Victim in Car Accident

An accident with multiple injuries shut portions of I-78 near Springfield and exit 48.

UPDATED at 6 p.m. Medevac helicopter Atlantic Air 1 landed on I-78 in response to a motor vehicle accident shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The helicopter transported a victim in serious condition to University Medical Center in Newark. New Jersey State Troopers said that early reports said the accident was a head on collision.  At least one victim was reportedly extricated from the passenger door. New Jersey state police and workers from the state Department of Transportation resonded to the accident site, near exit 48, along with Springfield police. Springfield police were handling traffic. Union Township ambulances were also spotted near the scene.  East and Westbound lanes on 78 were closed down entirely following the accident. The …

One Injured in Main Street Crash

First Aid Squad members transport the driver of one vehicle to the hospital.

One person was injured after a three-car crash on Main Street Saturday. Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad EMTs transported the driver of one vehicle to a nearby hospital, according to a Millburn Fire Department report. Firefighters were on scene and cleaned up fluid that had leaked from one vehicle with a drying agent. The accident was reported at about 9:15 a.m. and firefighters were on scene until about 10:30 when a tow company arrived.

Memorial Set Up for Crash Victim

The victim of a motorcycle crash last week was a Livingston firefighter.

There is a roadside memorial set up on White Oak Ridge Road for the victim of a motorcycle crash last weekend. Anthony J. Deltufo, 54, of Livingston, died from the injuries he suffered when his motorcycle collided with a car on the curve of the road near the Livingston border. Deltufo was a Livingston volunteer firefighter. The funeral for Deltufo was on Thursday, and a crew of Millburn firefighters were on duty in Livingston in order to allow all Livingston firefighters to attend it. The 30-year-old passenger on Deltufo's motorcycle also suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital. She was treated and released. Both were ejected from the motorcycle, police said. Livingston Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

The crash between the motorcycle and a car was Saturday night on White Oak Ridge Road.

A Livingston man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car on Saturday night on White Oak Ridge Road. Anthony J. Deltufo, 54, of Livingston was pronounced dead at Morriston Memorial Hospital at just after 4 a.m. on Sunday. Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad EMTs administered CPR at the scene before transporting him to the hospital. Police said Deltufo and the female passenger on the motorcycle were ejected. The 30-year-old female passenger was taken the the hospital complaining of pain. She was treated and released. The driver of the vehicle, a 63-year-old female from Freehold, had no complaints of injuries. Millburn Teen Pleads Guilty in Fatal Crash Case

Richard Chesler, 18, pleads guilty to vehicular homicide and faces seven years in jail for the 2009 crash.

The Millburn teen charged in a 2009 fatal car crash pleaded guilty in Essex County Court on Tuesday. Richard Chesler, 18, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, said Katherine Carter, county prosecutor's office spokeswoman. The prosecutor will recommend a sentence of seven years in prison, and he would have to serve 85 percent of the term before becoming eligible for parole under the No Early Release law. Carter said during Tuesday's hearing, Chesler's defense attorney stated he would argue for a shorter sentence. The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 14. Chesler was indicted in April on first-degree aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated within 1,000 feet of a school, according to the Essex …

News-Record: Millburn Teen To Be Tried as Adult for Parsonage Hill Crash

Richard M. Chesler was charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter.

A Millburn teen will face adult criminal charges for the death of a South Orange man from a January car crash on Parsonage Hill Road, according to a News-Record report. A superior court judge ruled Richard M. Chesler, who was 17 at the time of the crash, was to be charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, according to the report. He faces 10-30 years in prison if convicted. The News Record reports authorities will next seek an indictment. Ari Vuotila, 39, of South Orange, was killed in the two-car crash at the intersection of Parsonage Hill Road and Long Hill Drive on Jan. 27. One Injured in Rt. 24 Car Crash, Water Main Breaks in Poet's Section

The Millburn Fire Department responds to both incidents in the last week.

One person was injured in a car crash on Route 24 on Sunday. Millburn and Summit firefighters responded to the two-car crash at mile marker 7.5 on Route 24 at just before 2:30 p.m., according to a Millburn fire department report. The driver was not trapped, although an initial report said he was. He was taken to the hospital by the Millburn-Short Hills First Aid Squad with undisclosed injuries. Firefighters cut the battery cables because the air bag deployed. Millburn police and state police also were at the scene. Water Main Breaks on Chaucer Road A water main broke last Wednesday, and it took the water company several hours to repair it. Millburn Teen Recovering from Accident

He was hit by a car on Sunday in front of the high school.

A Millburn High School sophomore is recovering from the injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car on Sunday. The 15-year-old teen was taken to the Morristown Memorial Hospital with a hip and upper leg problem, police said, and he was later treated at the hospital for a head injury. He did not complain of any head pain at the time of the accident. School officials told police he is expected to return to school next week. Update: Schools Supt. Richard Brodow said school officials have not heard when the teen will return to school, but they are in touch with the family. Millburn Teen Car Crash Victim Dies

The crash was Sunday night in the South Mountain section.

A Millburn teenager who was critcally injured in a car crash Sunday night has died. George "Will" Ganter, 19, died around 10 p.m. on Monday, according to Paul Loriquet, Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokesman. He said the investigation into the crash is ongoing. A candlelight vigil will be held in Taylor Park Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. to remember Ganter. Ganter, a Millburn resident and recent high school graduate, was transported via helicopter to University Hospital in Newark following the crash and had been listed in critical condition. South Mountain Area Crash Victim in Critical Condition

Two teenagers were injured in the Sunday night crash.

A Millburn teenager is in critical condition after a single-car crash sent him and the driver of the vehicle to the hospital Sunday night. George Ganter, 19, was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in Newark, according to police. Capt. James Miller, police public information officer, said he was in critical condition.
