Services for Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten Season.

Many Christians attended services this morning and noontime in Millburn and Short Hills for Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten Season. Ash Wednesday takes place 46 days before Easter and marks the first day of Lent, a period of prayer and fasting for many Christians. The faithful honor Ash Wednesday

It was a packed house at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday morning for Ash Wednesday services. Those in attendance were marked with a cross in ash on their foreheads. The ashes, by tradition, are burned palms from the previous Palm Sunday Mass. A choir of students from St. Rose of Lima School, which is adjacent to the church, also sang during the service. Students from the school attended the service.
