This year's winter band concert showcased the hard work of MHS' concert bands and wind ensemble.
It's been a busy year for the Millburn High School bands. They've had a full season of playing at Millers varsity football games, three accelerated recitals (with three more to go this year) and have sent dozens of students to Region I honor bands, multiple students to All-State Ensembles, and even one to the NAfME All National Honor Band. During this time, the bands have been rehearsing for their first concert of the year and have spent months learning, playing, fine-tuning, and perfecting their music. The MHS bands presented their winter concert on Wednesday night to a large crowd in the auditorium. The bands are under the direction of the school's two band directors: Mindy Scheierman and Matthew Spatz. The Concert Band, the freshman …

The concert featured all MHS band students
The Millburn High School concert bands and wind ensemble concluded a busy year of music on a high note. Last Wednesday night, May 23, the bands, under direction of Matt Spatz and Mindy Scheierman, presented their annual Spring Concert to family, friends, and members of the community. The theme of this year's concert was "Folk Songs from Around the World". Songs from many different cultures, countries, and eras were performed. The Concert Band, the freshman ensemble who rehearse with Spatz, performed first. Their program began with "Prairie Schooner" and continued with "Rhythm Stand", and "A Little French Suite". Their program closed with a fun march, "March of the Sun Dried Tomatoes". Spatz commented that this march was "the woeful tale of…

The concert bands and wind ensemble from MHS play their winter repertoire to large crowds.
After a full season of entertaining crowds at every Millers home football game, the Millburn High School bands began working on their concert band repertoire in November in preparation for their first of two annual concerts. The MHS Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and two Symphonic Bands, which involve about 200 students, performed their songs at the concert on Wednesday, which was a huge success. The bands are under the direction of Mindy Scheierman, MHS Director of Bands and conductor of the 2011 All-North Jersey Honors Symphonic Band, and Matthew Spatz, MHS Associate Director of Bands and Chair of the New Jersey School Music Association’s Band Division. Spatz and Scheierman both exhibit exceptional ensemble leadership, dedication to the …

Even the marching band back in early 90's wasn't even a marching band. They'd go out to the football field at halftime walk to form an M and then play the songs. After they were done playing, they'd walk off. Stan West a master choreographer at his best.   more ›
