Police warn residents to lock their cars after burglary spree on Presidents' Day weekend.
Ten unlocked cars were targeted in a string off burglaries Sunday night into Monday morning in Millburn and Short Hills, police said. Officials reported the following items were stolen from the cars: In addition, six Short Hills residents reported burglaries on Monday. According to the report, nothing was missing from the cars. However, officials reported, the cars and glove boxes were ransacked. Police said two of the burglaries occurred at residences on Farley Road, while other incidents happened at homes on Whitney Road, Alan Drive, Delbarton Drive and Essex Street.

Last week, two Short Hills homes were broken into and lamp posts at five others were damaged.
Two homes were burglarized last Thursday in Short Hills, and several homes in the area were vandalized with damage to front lamps and lamp posts. In both of the burglary cases, homeowners were not home but had turned on their burglar alarms, which is what alerted police to the break-ins. When Millburn Police Officer Roberto Delgado arrived at the home on Bishop Lane, he found that the front door had been forced open. The residents were not in town but arranged for a family friend to meet police at the house. When they investigated the scene, police found that the nightstand, dresser and closet in the master bedroom were ransacked. Detectives with the Millburn Police Department are investigating two home burglaries that occurred last week on Old Short Hills Road and one that occurred Monday morning on Cypress Street in Millburn. According to police investigating the two burglaries that occurred back-to-back on Old Short Hills Road last Wednesday, April 18, a witness reported seeing a man, possibly Hispanic, walking between houses in the vicinity of the burglaries and told police that she also saw him parked in a dark blue SUV on Old Short Hills Road. An Apple computer was taken from one of the homes. Front door forced open in another residential burglary; unlocked cars broken into, police say.
One home and two vehicles were burglarized this week in Millburn and Short Hills, and, similar to some home break-ins last week, the front door of the residence was forced open. The home burglary occurred on Coniston Road in Short Hills sometime between Friday and Monday, when a guest was coming to stay at the home while the owners were away. The guest, who had just arrived from the airport, noticed that the front door had been kicked in. He walked inside and realized something was amiss, quickly exited and called police, according to a report by Officer James Silance. Millburn police reported on Monday that three residential burglaries occurred in the township on Friday evening. Police were called to an Elm Street home in Millburn at 7 p.m. by the homeowner who discovered the front door to his home open. A police investigation revealed that there was evidence of forced entry. An undetermined amount of jewelry was missing. Millburn Police worked a residential burglary and an attempted residential burglary and the case of a two stolen bikes from a residence on Friday, as well as a vehicle burglary and theft from the mall on Thursday. The owners of a home on Walnut Avenue in Millburn called police after returning home around 6 p.m. Friday, March 9, to find that the glass in the back door had been shattered with a rock and then removed so that someone could get inside. The police report by Officer Andrew Delrusso states that the closets and dresser drawers had been ransacked and that clothing and jewelry were missing. Someone broke into a home on Ridgewood Road in Millburn on Friday, entering through an unlocked sliding door in the back of the residence, according to Millburn Police. The resident told police that someone stole jewelry from her bedroom while she was out between 7:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on March 2. She said she realized that someone had been in the house when she returned and found a coat on the floor of the foyer but knew she had left the coat on the couch. They also made arrests in a shoplifting case and in the case of two men allegedly trying to install illegal credit card readers on gas pumps at the Sunoco on Millburn Avenue that could have resulted in the theft of identity and credit card numbers. Millburn police are investigating two more burglaries reported since last Wednesday. Millburn police investigated a burglary on Glenbrook Crest Drive last Wednesday. Two more burglaries were reported on Thursday. A Great Hills Road resident reported a break-in at just before 5:40 p.m. after finding a broken pane of glass in a rear basement door. While several burglaries were reported in the last week throughout Millburn-Short Hills, police are saying they are not necessarily related to those previously reported. Police Capt. James Miller, public information officer, said the incidents either were not located in the Wyoming and South Mountain sections or did not follow the method used in those incidents.
