Two More Car Burglaries Reported

One was on Ridgewood Road and the second on Sagamore Road.

Police are investigating two more car burglaries in the Wyoming and South Mountain areas. Police have been investigating a string of both home and car burglaries in the area, and are reminding people again to remember to lock their doors and set the alarm. Last Monday, a Ridgewood Road resident on the 800 block reported someone entered her unlocked car and took a GPS unit and cellular phone charger. Police believe the incident happened between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Oct. 24. Also last Monday, a Sagamore Road resident reported at police headquarters that someone had broke into her unlocked car and took a cellular phone and a GPS unit. I do know they have a "follow up" study for the places they do have these enforcements (and the stats I was given were not just for a week, but for longer periods too). They go out and measure the traffic's speed, etc. after they do enforcement. But like I said, I have a full story coming on the issue of speeding and also on crosswalks and the new law.   more ›

Police Ask Residents to Be Vigilant for Burglaries

Several home and car burglaries have been reported in the Wyoming and South Mountain sections of town.

Millburn police are reminding residents to lock their cars and set their alarms due to a number of home and car burglaries reported in the South Mountain and Wyoming sections in the last few weeks. Police have already arrested two men in connection to three car burglaries on Myrtle Avenue first reported in September, and they're seeking a third suspect for the burglaries, according to Capt. James Miller, police public information officer. But the other crimes have not been connected to those three burglaries, he said. There are extra police patrolling the area, he said, but it's also important for residents in those areas of town to be vigilant. Two Wyoming Area Burglaries Reported

Millburn police are investigating a burglary of a car parked in the Washington section and two homes in the Wyoming section. On Friday, a Spring Street resident reported someone took a GPS unit and a hands free telephone device from his vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry, police said. Police believe the incident happened between 9:30 p.m. on Thursday and 7:50 a.m. on Friday. On Thursday, a Wyoming Avenue resident on the 400 block reported a burglary. Police said they had left the home at 2:30 p.m. that day and returned at 9 p.m. when they noticed several items in the home were moved. Police Investigate Motor Vehicle Burglaries

One teen was arrested, but the investigation is ongoing. The burglaries were reported in the Wyoming section.

Millburn police are investigating a number of motor vehicle burglaries in the Wyoming section and have made one arrest. Millburn police arrested a Newark teen early Monday morning in connection with three motor vehicle burglaries. Ramone K. Hannah-Dismukes, 19, was charged with three counts of burglary and one count of theft of movable property. At about 4:30 a.m. Maplewood police contacted Millburn police that they had Hannah-Dismukes in custody as a suspect of burglarizing several cars in Millburn township, police said. Officers were able to locate a Myrtle Avenue "home address" on one of two GPS units recovered, police said. Hartshorn Drive Burglary Remains Unsolved; Public's Help Sought

Millburn police are seeing an unidentified witness to contact them about the July 2009 burglary that left the house ransacked.

Millburn police detectives are again seeking the public's assistance to help solve a burglary that left a Hartshorn Drive home ransacked in July 2009. The burglary was reported at the residence at 176 Hartshorn Drive, which is at the corner of Mohawk Road. The house has since been demolished. Police for the first time on Wednesday provided a photo of the home to remind people of what it looked like before the demolition. The burglary was reported on July 11, 2009 at just before 7:30 p.m. A witness, who police have not been able to contact since, reported seeing juveniles around the home and hearing the sound of breaking glass. Burglary Reported on Old Short Hills Road

Police are investigating a burglary on Old Short Hills that was reported July 13. The resident of the home on the 300 block of the road returned home to find a rear sliding glass door open. Officers found the door had been pried open. Reported missing at the time of the report were two notebook computers valued at $600 each and an undetermined amount of jewelry. Police believe the burglary happened between 8:30 a.m. and the time of the report at about 12:30 p.m. Union Teens Arrested for Bike Thefts Teens were arrested in two separate bicycle theft incidents on Sunday. Police Arrest Newark Man for Short Hills Burglary

James Clark already faces other burglary charges in Millburn.

Millburn police made an arrest in connection to a Taylor Road South burglary that was reported on June 20. The suspect was arrested a year ago for other burglaries in the township. James Clark, 39, of Newark, was charged with credit card theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, burglary, theft of moveable property and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $60,000.00, and Clark is currently being held at the Millburn Police Department pending transfer to the Essex County Jail. Clark was arrested Monday at the Essex County Courthouse on the Millburn warrants. Police said he took a television, laptop computer and cash from the Taylor Road South residence. Police Investigate Burglaries, Ask Public To Be Vigilant

Burglaries have been reported on Forest Drive South, South Terrace and Taylor Road South.

Millburn police are asking for the public to be extra vigilant on the report of several burglaries in an area of Short Hills. Millburn police reported two burglaries in the last week to add on to a burglary they reported on June 14. On Sunday, a Taylor Road South resident reported a burglary at just after midnight. Upon returning home, the homeowner found the back sliding glass door and a rear window open, police said. Stolen items includes a 40-inch flat screen television, a laptop computer and jewelry. Police believe the burglary happened between 8 p.m. and midnight on Saturday. Police: E-Mail Warning on Robberies Inaccurate

Police say they are not investigating a rash of recent home robberies as has been indicated in an e-mail circulating around town.

Millburn police are investigating a burglary on South Terrace, but they said there has been no rash of robberies as has been indicated in an e-mail circulating around town. Police responded to the South Terrace home at just after midnight on Monday. There was a window open and several rooms had been ransacked, police said. They believe the burglary happened between noon on Thursday and 12:05 a.m. on Monday. It had yet to be determined if anything had been stolen, and the burglary is under investigation. But an e-mail is circulating among residents stating police are investigating a rash of house robberies with a "career criminal" who was recently paroled as the main suspect. Police Arrest Brooklyn Man for 2008 Burglary

He is the second person arrested in connection with the Kenilworth Drive incident.

Millburn police have arrested a Brooklyn man in connection with 2008 Kenilworth Drive burglary. Police arrested Amos Miller, 69, and charged him with burglary and criminal mischief in connection with the Nov. 2, 2008 incident. Bail was set at $5,000, and Miller was served with the charges at South Woods State Prison. Police said Miller was linked to the offense by DNA evidence. Detectives had processed the crime scene and collected evidence that was submitted for DNA analysis by the New Jersey State Police Laboratory.
