Man and woman allegedly distracted Main Street homeowner by soliciting roof repairs.
Millburn police are asking for the public's help in identifying a couple believed to be involved in a burglary at a Main Street residence last Friday afternoon, officials said. According to police, the man rang the doorbell of a Main Street home inquiring about making roof repairs to the residence at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 15. The man convinced the resident to let him in the house to show where the home needed repairs, police said. The resident told police, the man let a woman in the house and the three continued speaking about repairs. While the woman distracted the resident, her partner went into the rest of the house and stole items, police said. Police have not released items stolen from the home. Officers investigate Millburn apartment burglary, gain description of suspect from tenant.
Millburn Police are searching for a man who allegedly broke into a two-apartment residence on Spring Street on Jan. 14 fleeing with money and electronics. Police described the man as between 30 and 35, white, with a thin to medium build, about 5 foot, 9 inches to 6-feet tall, with long brown hair and a ponytail. According to the report, when police arrived the first-floor tenant said she returned home and her clothes were all over the floor. The dresser drawers were open. According to police, one of the front-door panes was punched out, allowing access to the door lock. Man caught on tape burglarizing a West Orange Chinese Restaurant is also wanted in Montclair, Millburn, Verona and Fairfield.
A man suspected in more than 150 commercial burglaries in four New Jersey counties over the last two years has been caught on surveillance tape by the West Orange Police Department. The video of the serial burglar's last known job, on Nov. 18 at 4:30 a.m., at the #1 Chinese Kitchen on Main Street, depicts the man breaking into the restaurant by smashing the lower half of a glass door, crawling through the opening, and rummaging through the cash register. He found the register empty and left 15 minutes later, police said. Once police captured the man’s appearance on tape, they were able to get his face out across state channels, West Orange Det. Newark man linked to 2009 deli robbery and thefts in Union.
Police have accused an alleged career burglar with a string of area burglaries and burglary attempts, including the attempted burglary of an autobody shop this month and a 2009 burglary of a Springfield deli. On Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 a.m. Dobb's Autobody employees told police that a burglar unsuccessfully tried to pry open two of the body shop’s storage sheds. In addition, they reported the burglar stole a car from the lot and used it to smash open the body shop's gate. Investigating the incident, detectives discovered a lone suspect scaled the fence and left behind a bicycle. Millburn Police Detectives made an arrest in an October burglary case, after DNA evidence was returned from the state lab this week. Detectice arrested Tyrionne D. Cook, 20, at his home in Elizabeth, NJ. The burglary occurred on Oct. 15 on Rosedale Avenue. Cook had apparently entered the home through a broken rear door and took miscellaneous items from the house. Police charged him with burglary and theft with a bail seet at $5,000.

Police are looking for suspects in a rash of break-ins and attempted break-ins on Route 124 in Short Hills.
Police are investigating a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries into businesses along Route 124 in Short Hills that occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Millburn police officers who were investigating burglary at Mailboxes Etc, where someone broke-in through the rear door, they canvassed the area and discovered that someone had tried to pry open the rear doors of several other businesses, including Loehmann’s Shoes, Innovation Optics, the Health Food Mart. While investigating, police found that the front door of Loehmann's was unlocked but an intial search of the building appeared that nothing was disturbed inside. Sometime on Monday between 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., someone broke into a home on Ridgewood Road in Millburn. The homeowner returned home at 2 p.m. Monday to find that the front door was slightly open and the door frame was damaged. She called police and they checked the house but found no one still on the premises. She then went inside and noticed that two televisions were missing, that the master bedroom was ransacked and a $10,000 diamond tennis bracelet was also missing, as was a container of old coins valued at $500. The Essex County K-9 unit arrived to track the scent and police canvassed the area, but the suspect was not found. Homeowner was running errands and returned home to find home burglarized.
A home on Old Short Hills Road was burglarized on Wednesday while the homeowner in and out doing errands. The homeowner returned from errands around 10:20 a.m. and noticed the garage door and the door to the basement were opened, but she did not think much about it at the time as she thought perhaps she had left them opened, so she locked them and headed out to do make a run to the grocery store, according to a police report by Officer Hans Beyer. About 40 minutes later, when she returned again, she noticed that numerous items of clothing had been removed from dresser drawers. She immediately left the house and called police. The Zitter Group on Bleeker Street reported a burglary and the loss of much equipment.
Millburn police are investigating a burglary at the Zitter Group on Bleeker Street in Millburn, where directors reported on Monday the theft of computers and other equipment from the company sometime over the holiday weekend. Three laptop computers, a projector, a table-top camera, two docking stations and one laptop case were removed from different locations in the office. One employee who came into the building on Sunday said she saw that the door was propped open with a chair, although she did not notice anything missing at that time, according to Officer Alfred Freem’s report. Millburn police are investigating a burglary reported on Wednesday evening in Short Hills. A homeowner on Glenbrook Crest Drive reported she had arrived home at just before 8 p.m. to find the door unlocked, police said. The glass in the door also was broken, police said. Missing from the home at the time of the report was a laptop computer and jewelry, police said. They believe the incident happened between 7:25 a.m. and 7:50 p.m.
