Police Connect Man to Series of Commercial Burglaries, Burglary Attempts

Newark man linked to 2009 deli robbery and thefts in Union.

Police have accused an alleged career burglar with a string of area burglaries and burglary attempts, including the attempted burglary of an autobody shop this month and a 2009 burglary of a Springfield deli.   On Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 a.m. Dobb's Autobody employees told police that a burglar unsuccessfully tried to pry open two of the body shop’s storage sheds. In addition, they reported the burglar stole a car from the lot and used it to smash open the body shop's gate. Investigating the incident, detectives discovered a lone suspect scaled the fence and left behind a bicycle. Thieves Favor Easy Targets to Burglarize Cars

Police issue a tip to Maplewood residents and its surrounding areas that could keep your car and home safe.

Theives are searching for keys, but they’ll take whatever they find, loose change, glasses, electronics, and even owner’s manuals. There's been no pattern in make or model but the cars do share something in common ... nearly all are left unlocked. Maplewood Police has issued its June “Crime Tip” to warn against residential burglaries and thefts, most recently in the area north of Elmwood Avenue and east of Prospect Street. Residents are urged to practice good crime prevention strategies to protect their homes and autos. These strategies include: Report all suspicious activity in your neighborhood immediately to the Maplewood Police via 911.
